Executive Order No. 346 (2023): Artificial Intelligence Task Force and executive-branch AI use policy

Summary

Governor Murphy established an Artificial Intelligence Task Force, co-chaired by the Chief Technology Officer, the Chief Innovation Officer and the head of the Economic Development Authority, to study emerging AI and recommend government actions to encourage its ethical and responsible use, with a report due within 12 months. The order also directed the Office of Information Technology to develop a policy governing executive-branch agencies' use of AI, the Office of Innovation to build a staff training program, and the Office of Information Technology to evaluate AI tools for improving government services. The Task Force is advisory.
