Arizona HB 2394 (Laws 2024, Chapter 193) lets a candidate for public or party office, or any Arizona citizen, sue over a "digital impersonation" (realistic synthetic media) of themselves that was published without consent. The main remedy is preliminary and permanent declaratory relief that the media is a digital impersonation; injunctive relief and damages are available only where further elements are proven, such as sexual depictions. Actions must be brought within two years. The governor approved the act on May 21, 2024, as an emergency measure, operative immediately; the new section applies from 14 days after its effective date (June 4, 2024).
