Summary

Universal, Sony and Warner record labels sued Uncharted Labs, which operates the Udio music generator, on June 24, 2024, in the Southern District of New York, alleging it copied their sound recordings to train its model. UMG settled in late October 2025 and announced a licensed platform with Udio; Warner also settled. Sony's claims continue before Judge Alvin K. Hellerstein: in June 2026 Udio opposed Sony's second motion to amend, which the parties dispute against a narrower set of 333 asserted works, and fair use has not yet been decided.
