Summary
Tennessee created a 24-member Artificial Intelligence Advisory Council, co-chaired by the State Chief Information Officer and the Commissioner of Finance and Administration and attached to the Department of Finance and Administration. Its purpose is to recommend an action plan to guide awareness, education and use of AI in state government, including the actions, policies and investments needed. The council must advise the Governor on positioning the state to capture AI's economic benefit and on responsibly using AI to make state and local government services more efficient. The co-chairs had to submit a status report by May 1, 2025, and must report annually by December 31, 2025, 2026 and 2027 on AI's labor-market impact, beneficial state use cases, risks to key infrastructure and support for public employees. All state agencies must cooperate. The act is repealed on December 31, 2028.
