Summary
Utah SB 149, Artificial Intelligence Amendments (Laws of Utah 2024, chapter 186), signed on March 13, 2024, and effective May 1, 2024, created the Artificial Intelligence Policy Act (Utah Code Title 13, Chapter 72), the Office of Artificial Intelligence Policy and its learning laboratory, under which companies can test AI under regulatory mitigation agreements. It also added a generative-AI disclosure rule (former section 13-2-12): a business had to disclose generative AI use when a consumer asked, and regulated occupations had to disclose it up front. In 2025 SB 226 repealed section 13-2-12 and replaced it with narrower disclosure duties in a new chapter (now 13-77), and SB 226 and SB 332 moved the Policy Act's repeal date to July 1, 2027. The Division of Consumer Protection enforces the disclosure rules, with administrative fines of up to $2,500 per violation.
