Disclosure and labels

When you must discloseWhat the platform requires of the person posting.

X states no general duty to disclose AI use. Its rules prohibit deceptively sharing synthetic or manipulated media likely to cause harm, and its Authenticity policy bars AI-fabricated media of a real person shared as authentic in harmful ways. Creators in X's monetization programs must add a clear disclosure to AI-generated content depicting armed conflict.

X's Original Content Rewards page gives March 3, 2026 as the date from which posting AI-generated armed-conflict videos without that disclosure brings a 90-day suspension from the program, although the same page says the program opened to existing members from September 8, 2026.

Quoted passage Inauthentic Content; Synthetic and Manipulated Media
Synthetic and Manipulated Media: You may not share inauthentic media, including, manipulated, or out-of-context media that may result in widespread confusion on public issues, impact public safety, or cause serious harm (“misleading media”). We may use our own technology or receive reports through partnerships with third parties in order to determine if media have been manipulated or presented out of context. In situations where we are unable to reliably determine if it is misleading media, we may not take action.

Videos depicting armed conflict: For any AI generated content depicting armed conflict, you must add a clear disclosure that it is AI generated. Additionally, you must also label realistic video game depictions of armed conflict as a synthetic video. Automatic labelsWhich signals the platform says it reads to label content itself.

X says it may add a "Manipulated media" label to posts with media it determines was significantly and deceptively altered or fabricated, using its own technology or reports from third-party partners. Its Media Literacy Action Plan of July 2026 says X has expanded labeling for manipulated and AI-generated media, including "Made with AI" indicators for users in the EU.

X does not name C2PA, IPTC or watermarks as signals, and says it may not act where it cannot reliably determine that media is manipulated.

X's page does not mention C2PA, XMP or IPTC metadata.

Reach and enforcement

Reach and eligibilityWhat the platform itself says about recommendation, reach or earnings for AI content.

Under its Authenticity policy X may restrict reach by excluding posts from search, trends and recommended notifications, removing them from the For You and Following timelines and downranking them in replies; users see a visible label on posts with restricted reach. For breaches of its Creator Monetization Standards X may limit algorithmic recommendation of the account to non-followers and pause or revoke earnings.

X's Creator Revenue Sharing and Original Content Rewards pages both say that, effective March 3, 2026, undisclosed AI-generated armed-conflict videos bring a 90-day suspension from the program, and further violations end payments. The Creator Revenue Sharing page says that program stopped taking enrollments on August 7, 2026 and "will be retired on September 7, 2026". X does not say that an AI label itself affects reach.
