Summary
The KI-MIG sets Germany's enforcement structure for the EU AI Act. The Bundesnetzagentur is the default market surveillance authority, single point of contact and central complaints office, and hosts a coordination and competence centre; an AI market surveillance chamber of three members (the agency's president and vice-presidents) sits within it. Existing product regulators keep AI in Annex I products, and BaFin is the market surveillance authority for AI systems directly connected with regulated financial activity at supervised firms such as credit institutions, payment and e-money institutions. The Act also regulates fines for breaches of the AI Act and innovation measures such as AI regulatory sandboxes. It was signed on July 22, 2026, and entered into force on July 29, 2026.
