Summary

Argentina has no AI-specific statute. Its reference policy is ArgenIA, the national AI plan drawn up in 2018-2019 under the Secretariat of Science, Technology and Productive Innovation; it is a non-binding strategy covering talent, data, infrastructure, research, public-sector adoption and ethics. In 2026 the Milei government sent the Senate a full rewrite of the General Companies Law (Ley 19.550 of 1972). Among other changes it would create 'automated companies' run by autonomous algorithmic systems or AI agents without employees, and DAO companies. The Senate General Legislation committee has debated it since June 2026; in August the governing bloc said it would require at least one responsible natural or legal person behind automated companies, and in September Infobae reported that allies did not expect the automated-company chapter to advance soon. This bill is a companies-law reform, not a general AI framework.
