Disclosure and labels

When you must discloseWhat the platform requires of the person posting.

TikTok's Community Guidelines, effective September 24, 2026, require creators to label AI-generated or significantly edited content showing realistic-looking scenes or people, using TikTok's AI-generated content label or their own caption, sticker or watermark. TikTok encourages labeling any content completely generated or significantly edited by AI; small edits such as color correction or cropping, artistic styles such as anime and generic text-to-speech need no disclosure.

TikTok may label content automatically when a creator uses TikTok AI effects, and creators cannot remove that label.

About AI-generated contentTikTok (Help Center)

Quoted passage What are the requirements for posting AI-generated content on TikTok?
To support authentic and transparent experiences for our community, we encourage creators to label content that has been either completely generated or significantly edited by AI." "We also require creators to label all AI-generated content that contains realistic images, audio, and video, as explained in our Community Guidelines.

Integrity and Authenticity (Community Guidelines), section 'Edited Media and AI-Generated Content (AIGC)'TikTok (Community Guidelines)

Quoted passage Edited Media and AI-Generated Content (AIGC): opening
To help keep content on TikTok trustworthy and provide people with important context about what they are viewing, we require creators to label AI-generated or significantly edited content that shows realistic-looking scenes or people. Unlabeled content may be removed, restricted, or labeled by our team, depending on the harm it could cause.

Integrity and Authenticity (Community Guidelines), section 'Edited Media and AI-Generated Content (AIGC)'TikTok (Community Guidelines)

Quoted passage More information: REQUIRED DISCLOSURE
You must label content that uses AI or includes significant edits to show realistic-looking people or scenes. You can add your own clear caption, sticker, or watermark. For AI-generated content, you can also use our AIGC label." "Disclosure isn't needed when: Making small edits like color correction, reframing, or cropping Using artistic styles, like anime Using generic text-to-speech (TTS) narration, when the TTS isn't a recognizable voice of a known individual" "AI-Generated Content (AIGC): Any image, video, or audio made or changed by AI. This can include realistic scenes or artistic styles, like anime, cartoons, or paintings.

About AI-generated contentTikTok (Help Center)

Quoted passage How is AI-generated content labeled on TikTok? (Creator label)
Creators can disclose content as AI-generated directly on the post by adding text, a hashtag sticker, or context in the post's description." "Creator label: Creators apply this label to indicate that their content was completely generated or significantly edited by AI. The label will read "creator labeled as AI-generated". Please note that misleadingly labeling unaltered content with this label is a violation of our Terms of Service and may result in the removal of content.

About AI-generated contentTikTok (Help Center)

Quoted passage How is AI-generated content labeled on TikTok? (Auto label)
Auto label: TikTok may automatically apply the "AI-generated" label to content we identify as completely generated or significantly edited with AI. This may happen when a creator uses TikTok AI effects or uploads AI-generated content that has Content Credentials attached, a technology from the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA). Content Credentials attach metadata to content that we can use to recognize and label AIGC instantly." "Note: Once your content is labeled as AI-generated with an auto label, you won't be able to remove the label from your post.
Automatic labelsWhich signals the platform says it reads to label content itself.

TikTok says it may automatically apply an "AI-generated" label when a creator uses TikTok AI effects or uploads AI-generated content with C2PA Content Credentials attached; it began reading Content Credentials on images and video from other platforms in May 2024. In November 2025 it said it would start adding its own invisible watermark to AI content made with TikTok tools and to content uploaded with Content Credentials, and that its labels now add context on whether they came from TikTok's AI detection, creator labels or TikTok AI tools.

Creators cannot remove an automatic label. TikTok does not name IPTC. In July 2026 it said it had labeled over 3 billion videos as AI-generated using Content Credentials, creator labeling tools and its invisible watermark.

Partnering with our industry to advance AI transparency and literacyTikTok (Newsroom)

Quoted passage Partnering with our industry to label AIGC
Starting today, we're expanding auto-labeling to AIGC created on some other platforms by launching the ability to read Content Credentials, a technology from the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) . Content Credentials attach metadata to content, which we can use to instantly recognize and label AIGC. This capability started rolling out today on images and videos, and will be coming to audio-only content soon." "This means that the increase in auto-labeled AIGC on TikTok may be gradual at first, since it needs to have the Content Credentials metadata for us to identify and label it.

More ways to spot, shape and understand AI-generated contentTikTok (Newsroom)

Quoted passage Bolstering our AI-generated content labeling
Over the coming weeks, we'll start adding invisible watermarks to AI-generated content made with TikTok tools like AI Editor Pro, and content uploaded with C2PA Content Credentials. The watermarks will help us label content more reliably, and give us more context around changes made to content. We'll also continue reading C2PA Content Credentials and adding them into AI-generated content made on TikTok." "We require people to label realistic AI-generated content on TikTok and layer multiple strategies to apply that rule. This includes labeling tools we offer creators as well as our own detection models.

More ways to spot, shape and understand AI-generated contentTikTok (Newsroom)

Quoted passage Continuing to evolve our labeling approach
For example, over the last year, we enhanced our AIGC labels by adding more context around whether content was labeled due to our AI detection, creator labels, or TikTok AI tools.

Helping people spot and understand AI generated content on TikTokTikTok (Newsroom)

Quoted passage Body
To date, we've labeled over 3 billion videos as AIGC using a combination of Content Credentials, creator labeling tools and our invisible watermarking technology ." "Now, we're proud to join C2PA's Steering Committee so we can help drive adoption of this technology across our industry." "In the coming weeks, we’ll be testing improvements to our detection systems for accounts dedicated to posting AI-generated spam on topics that could pose a risk to public trust or well-being. These include politics and current events, financial advice, and medical content.

Supporting responsible, transparent AI-generated contentTikTok (Safety Center, Policies & engagement)

Quoted passage Evolving detection to keep pace with AI; Labeling content to provide transparency
We detect AI-generated content through a combination of proactive technologies, alerts from experts and fact-checking partners, searches for clips or keywords related to known AI-generated content, and user reports." "In addition to reading Content Credentials, we're also working to attach them to TikTok content, which will remain on content when downloaded or even shared on other platforms. This means that anyone will be able to use C2PA's Verify tool to help identify AIGC that was made or edited on TikTok and even learn when, where and how the content was made or edited.

How labels appearThe wording of the label and where viewers see it.

Not stated. None of TikTok's pages listed under Sources read says so.

TikTok's pages give the label wording but not where on the post or in the player it appears. Creators' own disclosures go directly on the post as text, a hashtag sticker or description context.

Content CredentialsWhether the platform shows or keeps the signed record.

TikTok's Safety Center, as read on October 19, 2026, says it is working to attach Content Credentials to TikTok content so that they remain when it is downloaded or shared on other platforms. In May 2024 TikTok said it would start attaching them so anyone could use C2PA's Verify tool to identify AI-generated content made on TikTok; in November 2025 it said it would continue adding them to AI-generated content made on TikTok; and its September 2025 EU disinformation-code report says it expanded Content Credentials to new features and launched a visible watermark for AI content made with the TikTok camera.

TikTok does not say whether it shows Content Credentials to viewers in the app.

TikTok's Sixth Disinformation Code Transparency Report: Stronger Protections, Clearer LabelsTikTok (Newsroom)

Quoted passage AI transparency: clearer labels, fewer takedowns
We expanded C2PA Content Credentials to new features and launched a visible watermark for AI content created with the TikTok camera, which helped drive more consistent labelling.

What happens to uploaded files

ImagesWhat the platform says about metadata, credentials and re-encoding.

TikTok reads C2PA Content Credentials on uploaded images and may label AI-generated content automatically when they are present.

TikTok does not say whether other image metadata is kept or removed.

Quoted passage Bolstering our AI-generated content labeling (limits)
We require people to label realistic AI-generated content on TikTok and layer multiple strategies to apply that rule. This includes labeling tools we offer creators as well as our own detection models. We also use a cross-industry technology called C2PA Content Credentials, which embeds metadata into content that lets us—as well as other platforms who use C2PA—know when something is AI-generated. These efforts helped label over 1.3 billion videos to date. However, a common industry challenge is that these kinds of labels may be removed when content is reuploaded or edited elsewhere. "Invisible watermarks" add another layer of safeguards with a robust technological "watermark" that only we can read, making it harder for others to remove.
AudioWhat the platform says about metadata, credentials and re-encoding.

In May 2024 TikTok said reading Content Credentials on audio-only content would follow.

Reach and enforcement

Reach and eligibilityWhat the platform itself says about recommendation, reach or earnings for AI content.

TikTok says turning on the AI-generated content setting won't affect a video's distribution as long as the video does not violate its Community Guidelines. Realistic content not yet confirmed as AI-generated that could mislead on matters of public importance, or that harms private figures, is ineligible for the For You feed, and unlabeled content may be restricted.

In November 2025 TikTok said it would test a "Manage topics" control letting people choose how much AI-generated content they see in For You. Its Creator Growth Challenge treats AI-generated content as not original and ineligible for that program's Welcome Reward.
