Summary
Malaysia has no binding AI statute. The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation launched the National Guidelines on AI Governance and Ethics in September 2024; they are voluntary and set seven principles for responsible AI. On July 28, 2026, the government launched AI Malaysia Bhd under the Ministry of Digital, turning the National AI Office into a permanent entity, and unveiled the National AI Action Plan 2026-2030 as the implementation framework for its AI Nation 2030 goal, with initiatives on sector adoption, talent, infrastructure, governance and financing. The Ministry of Digital's Malaysia Digital Action Plan 2030 (MD2030), launched by the Prime Minister, sets wider digital and AI targets.
