Summary

HHS released version 1.0 of its department-wide AI Strategy, led by Acting Chief AI Officer Clark Minor, implementing the AI Action Plan, AI-related executive orders and OMB guidance. Its five pillars are: governance and risk management for public trust; infrastructure and platforms designed for user needs; workforce development and burden reduction; health research and reproducibility; and modernized care and public health delivery. A 'OneHHS' approach asks all HHS divisions to build one department-wide AI infrastructure. The strategy reports 271 active or planned AI implementations in FY2024. HHS describes it as a first step focused mainly on internal operations.
